Ilana und Palti in Deutschland

After a year in London and an invitation from the Israeli ambassador to Germany, "Ilana & Palti" decided to move to Germany in 1975. Where they were "adopted" by Shalom and Zahara Geller from Kfar Gil'adi, a kibbutz in northern Israel. Shalom was the "Zionist Emissary" to Germany. And so "Ilana & Palti" participated in Jewish events all over Germany, trying to convince the young Jewish generation to immigrate to Israel. "Ilana & Palti" performed in various tv- and radio
programs and were invited by Jewish organizations like "Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael" (Jewish National Fund), to present their versatile repertoire in several folk music programs. Like in Jewish events with Hans Rosenthal in Berlin.
They also participated in "Folklore International", an
international festival, produced for the Hessischer Rundfunk (HR),  together with Gordon Lightfoot from Canada, "The Chieftains" from Ireland and "Elster Silberflug" from Germany among others.
"Ilana & Palti" were asked by the HR to record stereo songs in their studio, which would be presented later in the radio show "
Das Jugend-Journal".
They also recorded and performed for the British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS) in Berlin and Rias Berlin.

Through all these participations they gained more and more fame, so that the record company, EMI, got notice of them and took them under contract.

In 1976 "Ilana & Palti" recorded their first single
"Du tanzt so gut / Warum hast Du Licht gemacht" at the EMI-ELECTROLA Studio in Cologne.
The music of
"Warum hast Du Licht gemacht"  (=Why did you turn on the light) was composed by Paltiel-hay Jacoby, who also wrote the original Hebrew lyrics. These were adapted to a German version by German poet, Fritz Grasshoff.

1977 their second single "Disco Taxi / Don't start the same old game" (music: Heinz Gietz, English lyrics: Chris Howland, arrangement: Heinz Gietz), was released. "Disco Taxi" turned to become an international hit single and gained much fame all over the world, especially in Mexico.

Later in 1978 "Ilana & Palti" went to London, England, to record their last single "
Love just knocked at my door / When you're young and in love".
What was produced by David Vaughan, who was the manager of his father, Frankie Vaughan, a well known singer and actor in England and in the United States.

8 "Ilana & Palti" also recorded their LP  "Ein Mann, Ein Mädchen", which title song is the German cover of ABBA's "One man, one woman".
